Chris Birch Yurts is a small rural business nestled in the Sussex countryside, run by partners Carleen and Chris Birch and a creative, dedicated team. Our history dates back to 1998 when Chris made his first yurt from locally gathered hazel and ash wood, following instructions from a booklet he picked up at the Green Gathering Festival.
Since then Chris continued to make coppice yurts as well as working on Medieval building restorations, cabinet and furniture making, timber frame restoration, bespoke carpentry and furniture making, boat building and the design and construction of interiors for gypsy wagons, shepherds huts and living vehicles.
His natural affinity with wood, keen eye, attention to detail and practical design sense have enabled Chris to channel his skills into every project he undertakes.
Inspired by the beauty, serenity and stability of his yurt after two seasons of living on the land, Chris was encouraged to take his skills a step further and set up in business.
His partner Carleen was trained up in cover making by Spirits Intent and stepped away from her profession as a complementary therapist to work alongside Chris in the textile department and manage the day to day running of the business.
We have continued to develop and evolve our yurts and covers to offer a structure that is aesthetically beautiful, practical, tailored to individual needs and adapted to suit the British climate.
We now also offer beautiful camper conversions, outdoor kitchens, rustic furniture and camping chairs. Images coming soon! Please call for more information..
